Meet Chelsea Mabry, okPORK Summer Intern

Chelsea Mabry.jpg

We are excited to have selected Chelsea Mabry to be our Summer Intern this year. Chelsea is passionate about the swine industry and was a member of our first Pork Industry Group at Oklahoma State University. She will be joining us in mid-May and we can’t wait for you to meet her in person. Until then, enjoy this Q&A session with Chelsea.

Where are you from?

Moore, Oklahoma

What is your area of study and how did you choose that path?

I have been studying Agricultural Communications the past three years at Oklahoma State University. However, I recently changed my major to Agricultural Education. I plan to graduate in May 2021.

I had an assignment earlier in the semester where I had to observe an agricultural education class. The pure interest the kids had while learning about agriculture sparked a fire in me. After several talks I decided that that my passion lies within educating younger generations about what it takes to be an agriculturalist.

What do you want to do when you graduate?

Upon graduating college, I plan to teach agricultural education in a suburban or urban high school. This will allow me to reach out to students that might never have another opportunity to learn about agriculture. I plan to use all the skills I have learned within my college career and internship to give my future students the best opportunity possible. With that I want to be able to teach them things that I was not exposed to as a student.

What did you want to be when you were a little kid?

Growing up I always said I wanted to be a teacher just like my mom and one of my older sisters.

What is your favorite movie EVER?

I am not much of a movie person, but I have to pick one I would have to say Sister Act!

If I were to jump in your car – what would be playing on the radio?

If you were to jump in my car you will notice I often switch between worship and country music!

What is your favorite food?

I am a PICKY eater! I order the same thing every time I go out to eat… Chicken tenders and French fries with a side of ranch dressing.

What is one fact about yourself that no one would ever guess?

One fact about me that most people do not know is I really enjoy signing! I was in choir for serval years!

What made you apply to work for okPORK?

I was a member of the first Pork Industry Group that okPORK hosted. Through this experience I saw a different side of the swine industry I was never exposed to growing up. I decided to apply to work for okPORK to use skills I have gained in class as well as gain more insight into the industry.

What are you most excited about this summer?

I am most excited to help plan the second Pork Industry Group, and gain connections through this internship that I will be able to use later on in life! P.I.G gave me a different outlook on the industry, and I am excited to help give that opportunity to someone else!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Within the next year I will marry my high school sweetheart and graduate from college. In the years to follow I hope to have a happy and healthy family while maintaining a successful career within the agricultural industry. Ten years from now I hope to have made a positive impact on several people.
